Iran Holds 13th Int’l Stone Expo

TEHRAN (ANA)- The 13th Iran International Stone Exhibition kicked off in Tehran on May 29 with over 100 companies from Iran and six world states in attendance.

The five-day exhibition which ended on June 2 was held at the venue of the international Shahr-e Aftab permanent exhibition ground in the Southern margine of Tehran.

Nearly 110 Iranian companies and several companies from China, Russia, India, Italy, Turkey and Greece displayed their latest products and achievements in this edition of the exhibition in an area of 12,000 square meters.

The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on May 29 with Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade for Mineral and Processing Affairs Reza Mohtashamipour, Chairman of Industries and Mines Commission at the Parliament Mostafa Taheri and Head of Iran House of Mine Mohammad Reza Bahreman as well as members of Iran Decorative Stone Association.

According to Chairman of Iran Stone Association Bahram Shakouri, between 10mln to 11mln tons of decorative stones are annually extracted in Iran, stressing that the country enjoys the capability of exporting $5 billion worth of decorative stone overseas.

He added that Iran is home to more than 6,000 mining and mineral processing units of decorative stones, which have generated employment opportunities for about 600,000 people in the country.

Iran earns between $300 and $350 million annually from the exports of decorative stone, Shakhouri said.
