Mohammad Doustar, the president of the Islamic Azad University, Rasht branch, told ANA that the advanced laboratory of the university ranked third in the national assessment of the laboratories last year.

The assessment was carried out among state-run, privately-owned, academic, and non-academic technological laboratories in the country, Doustar added.

He went on to say that as per the assessment, the central laboratory of Gilan University and the science and technology park of the province ranked 136 and 334, respectively.

Advanced GC-MS, HPLC, DRS, FTIR, and UV systems are able to meet a broad range of the needs of researchers, academics, university students, and producers.

The Islamic Azad University, Rasht branch, also ranked second and first from 2016 to 2020 among laboratories affiliated with the Islamic Azad University and ranked third in 2021, he noted.

A complete analysis of soil, water, and plant samples, medicinal herbs, and chemical substances is done by the laboratory to help university students carry out their research programs.

The Islamic Azad University is the third-largest university in the world as far as the enrolment numbers display. It is a non-governmental, nonprofit Iranian higher education provider that has been established in 1982.

To date, some 5 million students have graduated from the IAU, and currently, 1.7 million students are studying at the university branches.

Over three decades and a half, IAU has ramified into more than 400 branches throughout Iran and four branches abroad, namely in Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and England.

Studies show that Iran entered the year 2022 while the country ranked 15th in science production worldwide and it is expected to make progress over the next years.

In reviewing scientific products, various indicators such as publication of articles in prestigious international journals, citations, validity of journals, the level of productivity, and scientific impact of scientists are considered quantitatively and qualitatively.
