Largest Foot-And-Mouth Disease Vaccine Production Line in Iran Inaugurated
The FMD vaccine is used to create resistance against the virus and control foot-and-mouth disease in cattle, calves, sheep, and goats.
FMD is a highly contagious, acute viral disease. It is characterized by the formation of vesicles (fluid blisters) and erosions in the mouth and on the nose, teats, and feet.
The vaccine is an oil-based adjuvant that usually provides immunity for a longer period of time. In case of the foot-and-mouth disease, the immunity reaches up to 6 months while it is 3 to 4 months in the case of water-based vaccines.
The lower price of the Iran-made product compared to foreign samples, the increase in domestic production capacity of livestock vaccines, and the reduction of foreign dependence are among the advantages of the project.
The knowledge-based company has launched the production line in less than 10 months, producing the vaccine in accordance with the most up-to-date standards of good manufacturing practice (GMP) in the world, with an annual production capacity of 20 million doses.
