Removing Salt from Water with Iran-Made System
An effective way to tackle water shortages problem in the world is desalination or the process of removing salt from salt water. However, this process is too costly, a report by Iran’s Vice Presidency for Science and Technology said.
An Iranian knowledge-based company has designed and developed an electrodialysis system, which is one of the new methods of desalination with low energy consumption and low effluent production compared to previous methods. The system has been able to provide an effective solution for salt water desalination.
The report added that in the electrodialysis system based on an electrochemical technique; Ionic contaminates are removed from the aqueous solution by passing an electric current to separate the salt from the water.
According to the Vice Presidency’s public relations department, this Iranian desalination system has advantaged over similar types, including the possibility of desalination of brackish water and seawater with an efficiency rate of 85% to 95%, lower energy consumption compared to other methods, membrane life span of more than 5 years, low operating cost and no need for pre-treatment.
