Production Line for Acetaminophen Starting Material Launched in Iran
The production line was inaugurated in a ceremony in the presence of the vice president for science and technology.
Over the past two years, some 15-20 million dollars worth of the substance was imported into the country, said Mohammad-Reza Mousavi, the managing director of the company.
Efforts were made to launch a para-aminophenol production line in order to curb the import, he said, adding that the production line has the capacity to produce the substance twice as much as the domestic market needs.
“Last year, the country spent some 20 million dollars to import para-aminophenol. This year, with the opening of the production line, only 5 million dollars will be imported, saving about 15 million dollars,” he added.
“We pledge to launch the paranitrochlorobenzene production line within the next two years in order to complete the value chain.
“The company’s mission is to prevent crude sales. We should not allow benzene to be exported to India and China and converted into materials with higher added value,” he stressed.
With the completion of the production chain, this will be the first of its kind in the world, Mousavi noted.
“In the next step, we will move towards producing Metformin. This material is sold by international brands at several times the price. Producing Aspirin and Mefenamic acid is also on the agenda. The mission will continue until complete self-sufficiency.”
