Yaqoub Fat'hollahi referred to the creation of scattered laboratory networks by the Iranian government, including the Science Ministry and the Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, and underlined the need for the establishment of an integrated national laboratory network.

“Laboratory capacity for scientific research has been created in the country and they work in the form of specialized or national laboratories, and each of these laboratories individually provides services to specialists and researchers,” he said.

Fat'hollahi said that creation of a national laboratory network was proposed to increase laboratory capacities, both in the form of individual laboratories and networks, and integrate the country's laboratories.

“Launching this national network does not mean stopping the activities of other networks, and all laboratory networks should continue to work, and the national network should also be launched with preparations and plans at the national level and with a national and transnational vision to serve all scientists in the Islamic world,” he stressed.

It should be mentioned that Iranian specialists have pioneered in production of different laboratory equipment in the past few years.

For instance, medical microbiology, clinical biochemistry and physiology specialists in an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in manufacturing laboratory and medical products which had earlier been imported to the country.

“Many laboratory equipment and products, including culture media, coloring solutions, reagents and quality control indicators are imported to Iran from European countries and China, while the know-how and ability to produce many of them are available in our country,” Managing Director of the knowledge-based company ‘Satras Zist Fanavar’ Davoud Azadi told ANA.

He added that his technological unit has focused on the subject with the aim of covering the needs of the entire country and even exports in this field.

“The company has been active in production of products and equipment needed in medical science and medical diagnosis laboratories and even operating rooms and hospitals and so far we have produced 16 widely-used products,” Azadi said.

He added that necessary follow-ups for gaining international ISOs and GMP license are underway by his company.
