"The smart and health masks are the products that we have presented in this exhibition. This mask has four nano-multilayered filters and a breathing facilitator inside. It also has GPS so that, if the mine collapses, we can find the place where the person is under the debris and rescue him/her,” Reza Mehdipour, a mechanical engineering student at Islamic Azad University’s Kerman branch, said on the sidelines of the 23rd Exhibition of Research, Technology, and Techmarket in Tehran.

He added that a medical module is embedded in the mask which can show the vital signs of a person in an open mine and a tunnel mine.

“In fact, by this module we can find out about the vital signs of the miner if the mine collapses and he/she remains under the debris. Also, when mining is performed in tunnel mines, a series of toxic gases are released during mining which cause respiratory poisoning; therefore, a sensor and a little capsule have been installed in the mask to assess the quality of the air and it gives the person about 30 breaths so that he/she can remain alive under the debris,” Mehdipour said.

He added that so far, China was the only country which had produced similar masks.

The 23rd Exhibition of Research, Technology, and Techmarket was inaugurated at Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on December 10 and wrapped up on December 14.

Islamic Azad University participated in the exhibition with 300 research and technological products.
