Smart robot helps users choose and test perfumes
The “Sep Robo” team is among the participants in the national RoboCup competition and has developed the “Sep Robo Perfume” device to simplify the process of selecting and testing perfumes in stores. The device can select a fragrance based on information provided by the user and automatically spray a sample using ultrasonic technology.
Parmisa Darabi, 14, a member of the team, told Anatech that the device was designed to help people who have difficulty choosing a suitable fragrance when visiting a perfume store.
“The device asks a series of simple questions about the user’s gender, setting and preferred scent. By answering these questions, the user provides the information required by the system,” she said.
She added: “Based on the information it receives, the device identifies the user’s preferred perfume and places it in front of the outlet. It then uses ultrasonic technology to measure the distance of the user’s hand and sprays a single puff of the perfume onto the user’s hand.”
Asked about similar devices developed in other countries, Darabi said a similar device exists in Saudi Arabia, but its mechanism is different.
“The device developed in Saudi Arabia is designed to sell perfumes. The user enters the name of a perfume and receives the requested product. Our device, however, has been designed as a tester and an assistive tool for people working in the perfume retail sector,” she said.
Darabi said the idea emerged from difficulties the team members themselves had experienced when choosing perfumes.
“Choosing a perfume is difficult for me as well. Based on this, we examined global statistics on people’s use of different perfumes and came up with the idea that such a device could help people choose a fragrance,” she said.
Regarding the current status of the project and its potential entry into the market, Darabi said the device has not yet been commercialized and remains at the prototype stage.
“Once we complete the product and are confident that it is sufficiently ready for the market, we will pursue its launch,” she said.
