International Affairs Expert: Trump’s Narrative on Ceasefire Extension with Iran Is a “Big Lie”
According to the Ana News Agency, Dr. Hakam Amhaz, a professor of international relations, stated that Iran did not request any extension of the ceasefire, dismissing U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that the decision was made in response to a Pakistani request, and describing it as a “big lie.”
Amhaz explained that Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire primarily aims to allow U.S. forces to regroup and compensate for losses, particularly in air defense systems.
He further noted that U.S. naval vessels are currently positioned far from the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to avoid coming within range of Iranian fire. He added that two American destroyers were forced to withdraw from Iranian territorial waters after being intercepted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Amhaz also stressed that Trump cannot continue any military action against Iran without obtaining formal authorization from the U.S. Congress.
He concluded by suggesting that the ceasefire extension could be a deceptive move within a broader strategy pursued by the U.S. administration.
