Abbas Araghchi says Iran negotiated in good faith in Islamabad talks but faced U.S. “greed” and shifting demands

(Tehran Ana)- Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran engaged in negotiations with the United States in good faith to end the conflict, but accused Washington of changing its positions and increasing demands as talks neared a draft agreement.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi wrote on X that during the intense negotiations that took place at the highest level over the past 47 years, Iran entered into negotiations with the United States in good faith to end the war. But just when Tehran and Washington were only a few steps away from reaching a memorandum, Iran faced Washington's greed, constantly changing goals, and threats of a blockade.

"In intensive talks at highest level in 47 years, Iran engaged with U.S in good faith to end war," the top Iranian doplomat wrote, adding, "But when just inches away from "Islamabad MoU", we encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade."

"Zero lessons earned," he stressed.

He concluded by saying, "Good will begets good will. Enmity begets enmity."

The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that despite harsh statements from both Iranian and American sides, the doors of diplomacy remain open.
The newspaper also revealed that regional countries are eager to return the United States and Iran to the negotiating table to contain tensions and prevent further escalation of regional tensions.

In this regard, Waseem Abbasi, a journalist for Pakistan’s Arab News, claimed that diplomatic sources say that a movement for the next stage is taking shape, and it is likely that US-Iran talks will resume in the coming days with Pakistan’s facilitation, either in Islamabad or elsewhere in Europe.

On Sunday, talks between Washington and Tehran were held in Islamabad with Pakistan’s mediation. After several hours of intense negotiations, despite some progress, fundamental disagreements remained.
