Iran Warns UN of Humanitarian Risks from US-Israeli Attacks on Nuclear Sites

(Tehran Ana)- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned the United Nations that repeated US and Israeli strikes near Iran’s nuclear facilities, including the Bushehr power plant, risk radioactive contamination and severe humanitarian and environmental consequences across the region.

In a letter to the UN Secretary-General, Security Council members, and the IAEA Director General, Araghchi described multiple attacks on Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities in recent months. He stressed that these strikes violate international law, UN resolutions, and IAEA safeguards, and endanger civilian populations both in Iran and neighboring states.

Araghchi criticized the lack of decisive action from the UN and IAEA, warning that continued inaction could undermine confidence in the non-proliferation regime. He also expressed concern over recent statements by the IAEA Director General, which disclosed sensitive information and hinted at the potential use of nuclear weapons against Iran, further eroding trust in the Agency’s impartiality.

Iran called on the UN and IAEA to condemn these attacks, take immediate measures to prevent further aggression, and ensure accountability for all responsible parties.
