Iran Signals Openness to “Fair and Equitable” Talks with US
President Pezeshkian announced on his X account that his instructions to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi follow requests from friendly regional governments for Iran to respond to a US proposal for talks.
He stressed that negotiations should be guided by principles of dignity, prudence, and the country’s national interests, provided a suitable and threat-free environment exists.
During the Foreign Ministry’s weekly briefing on Tuesday, spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that Iran is evaluating options for resuming indirect negotiations with Washington.
He noted that high-level contacts with regional partners aim to maintain a responsible approach that safeguards both national and regional stability, particularly in light of recent destabilizing actions by the US and Israel.
While the United States has yet to officially confirm negotiations, former President Donald Trump indicated a willingness to engage with Iran after previously threatening military action.
“We have talks going on with Iran, we’ll see how it all works out,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday, adding, “I’d like to see a deal negotiated… if we could work something out, that’d be great.”
