Russia Voices Condolences to Iran Over Deaths During Recent Unrest
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov conveyed condolences to the Iranian government and people during a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, on Monday. Ryabkov described the losses as tragic and reiterated the Russian Foreign Ministry’s firm stance against any form of external involvement in Iran’s domestic matters.
During the talks, Ambassador Jalali outlined what he described as terrorist and violent incidents that occurred in January 2026 (Dey 1404), accusing hostile actors of exploiting peaceful protests and professional gatherings. He said the unrest was part of a broader pattern of actions against the Iranian nation, following what he referred to as the “12-day war,” which he said was neutralized by a massive public turnout on January 12.
The meeting also covered the latest regional and international developments, including discussions on nuclear-related issues. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue and coordination at various levels, underlining their shared commitment to counter unilateral approaches and to reinforce multilateral mechanisms in international relations.
