Russia-US Dialogue on Key Issues Remains Stalled, Says Deputy Foreign Minister
In an interview with TASS, Ryabkov said that “stalling” best characterizes current Russia-US relations regarding the topics considered irritants in their ongoing discussions. He stressed that his comments pertain specifically to these contentious issues rather than the broader bilateral relationship.
Ryabkov outlined that the impasse indicates a need to adjust the format of future dialogues. He noted that the first two rounds of discussions were held in third countries and led by Ambassador Alexander Darchiev on Russia’s side.
However, he added that further talks now require more extensive preparatory and research work to assess whether the US side shows any flexibility and whether there is potential for agreements.
“Consequently, the level of communication has shifted to a more working, practical mode,” Ryabkov said, adding that despite the slow pace, dialogue with Washington continues.
