Iran Condemns Israeli Attack on UNRWA Headquarters in Occupied Jerusalem
Speaking on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized that UN premises, property, and personnel are protected under international law, particularly the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, as well as broader international humanitarian law.
Baqaei described the attack on UNRWA’s headquarters and the occupation of its buildings as unprecedented assaults on the United Nations, urging the international community—especially the UN itself—to respond effectively and responsibly.
He further stated that the demolition of UNRWA facilities reflects Israel’s “systematic policy” to deprive Palestinians of essential humanitarian services, occurring amid ongoing acts of violence and what he described as genocide against the Palestinian people.
The spokesperson also highlighted the role of Israel’s allies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, in enabling the current situation.
Warning of the broader consequences, Baqaei noted that “continued inaction against such dangerous actions not only weakens the effectiveness and credibility of the United Nations, but also exposes international peace and stability to unprecedented threats,” calling for urgent measures to uphold international law and protect Palestinian rights.
