Iran and Iraq Discuss Strengthening Military and Security Cooperation

TEHRAN (ANA)- Senior military and security officials from Iran and Iraq met in Baghdad to review ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, with a focus on border security, anti-smuggling measures, and regional stability.

The Iranian Military Attaché to Iraq, Major General Majid Gholipour, held talks with Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, to explore avenues for reinforcing security and military coordination between the two neighboring countries.

According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the meeting took place in Baghdad on Wednesday and was reported by the media office of the Iraqi National Security Advisor. Discussions centered on strengthening joint efforts in border control, preventing smuggling activities, and safeguarding regional security and stability.

The statement further noted ongoing initiatives by both sides to expand military and security cooperation in additional fields, including military studies, research collaboration, and the exchange of information, expertise, and professional experience, underscoring the commitment of Tehran and Baghdad to sustained coordination.
