Iranian Researchers Find Treatment for Tinnitus, Hearing Loss

They produced an electrical stimulation device for the rehabilitation of people with hearing problems. 

Mola Jafari, one of the researchers, said that cochlear implant systems are among the achievements of the company.

The system is used for people who are completely deaf, Mola Jafari said, adding that the system is surgically placed in a part of the head and helps people regain their hearing.

Mola Jafari referred to the electric stimulation device as one of the other products of the company, noting that the device has a wide range of applications.

It can be used both for performing cochlear implant tests and in audiometry clinics for hearing rehabilitation to treat tinnitus.

The researcher went on to say that the device is able to treat tinnitus by using electrical stimulation.

It produces direct or alternating current with different frequencies and different waveforms to perform both electrical and acoustic stimulation.

The device has been used in several clinics, Mola Jafari said, adding that studies show it has been able to treat tinnitus in 80 percent of cases.

Mola Jafari pointed to hearing loss as one of the symptoms caused by tinnitus, saying that the device has caused the hearing loss caused by tinnitus to improve to some extent.

The device uses electric waves to stimulate the auditory nerves and this causes the treatment process to be implemented.

Programmability is another advantage of the electrical stimulation device, Mola Jafari concluded.
