Iran Produces Dual Diagnosis Kit for Colon Cancer
“Our company produces and distributes dual diagnosis kits for colon cancer, 11-parameter urine diagnosis kits, cervical cancer and HPV diagnosis kits by ELISA method, pap smear and liquid-based brush kits, etc.,” Mehdi Golabi Deylamqani, the managing-director of the knowledge-based ‘Zist Bonyan Teb Hiva’ company, told ANA.
He underlined production of dual diagnosis kits for colon cancer for the first time in Iran, and said, “This dual kit is used for detecting fecal occult blood and colon cancer diagnosis.”
“These kits enjoy 98% accuracy and the possible problem can be detected in less than 10 minutes. Testing for colon cancer was highly expensive before the kit was developed, but now the general public can perform the screening in the shortest possible time at home,” Golabi Deylamqani said.
Colorectal cancer is a disease in which cells in the colon or rectum grow out of control. Sometimes it is called colon cancer, for short. The colon is the large intestine or large bowel.
Colon cancer typically affects older adults, though it can happen at any age. It usually begins as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called polyps that form on the inside of the colon. Over time some of these polyps can become colon cancers.
Polyps may be small and produce few, if any, symptoms. For this reason, doctors recommend regular screening tests to help prevent colon cancer by identifying and removing polyps before they turn into cancer.
If colon cancer develops, many treatments are available to help control it, including surgery, radiation therapy and drug treatments, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
