Iranian Specialists Build Hemi-Anechoic Chamber for Sound, Acoustic Measurements

TEHRAN (ANA)- A faculty member of Lorestan University of Medical Sciences announced the design and construction of a hemi-anechoic chamber for sound and acoustic measurements.

“A group of researchers and engineers from the Occupational Health and Safety Engineering Department succeeded in designing and constructing a hemi-anechoic chamber which is a specialized space used to conduct precise tests of sound characteristics and conduct acoustic and audiometric tests under controlled conditions,” said Maryam Mahdavi.

She explained that a hemi-anechoic chamber is a type of semi-anechoic space in which the walls and ceiling are covered with sound-absorbing materials to eliminate the reflection of sound waves from these surfaces, while the floor of the room remains reflective to simulate the real conditions of sound contact with surfaces (such as the ground).

“This feature makes the chamber suitable for audiometry and testing industrial equipment, vehicles, and electronic devices in an environment close to real conditions,” Mahdavi said.

“The design of this chamber uses high-performance sound absorbers that are capable of absorbing waves in a wide range of frequencies, especially low frequencies, which can provide accurate data on sound pressure levels, sound emission patterns, and frequency analysis. Temperature, humidity, and environmental noise level control systems are also built into the chamber structure to maintain measurement accuracy,” she noted.

Mahdavi underlined that the achievement can be widely used in the fields of medicine and medical equipment, sound engineering, automotive, electronic equipment, military industries, and academic research.

Hemi-Anechoic Chambers provide engineered features that achieve outstanding acoustic testing performance results and goals without compromising acoustic concepts and budgets.

Hemi-anechoic chambers are used to perform precision- and engineering-grade testing on a wide variety of devices ranging from handheld units to large vehicles and equipment.

Hemi-anechoic chambers are acoustic enclosures with a high-performance wall panel system that provides the low-noise environment required to test today's low-noise products. A precision-grade free-field environment is a product of the hemi-anechoic chamber's sound absorption system that consists of melamine wedges installed on a patented clip system that provides fast wedge installation and removal. Unlike other wedge solutions, melamine wedges provide a bright and fiber-free working environment.
