Polymer materials like rigid polyvinyl chloride, or UPVC, are widely used in different construction, agricultural and industrial industries. These materials have taken a large part of the pipe and fittings market due to their features like corrosion resistance, high durability, reasonable price and easy installation. Pishgam Plast Ahvaz company has taken an important step in improving the quality of these products by combining nanotechnology and industrial experience.

Mechanical, physical and chemical tests conducted on UPVC pipes and fittings containing nanoparticles based on national standard 9119 yielded impressive results. Based on the data, the impact resistance of these tubes was reported to be 6.8 times higher than that of conventional tubes; a number that indicates a huge leap in improving mechanical properties. Also, the longitudinal recovery rate was measured at 4.5% in nano-sized samples, while this index was 6.6% in tubes without nanoparticles; an issue that indicates a reduction in deformation and an increase in the dimensional stability of the product.

These tubes also performed very well in the field of chemical resistance. In a three-hour immersion test in a dichloromethane solution, no cracks or peeling were observed in the tubes containing nanoparticles; while conventional samples suffered surface damage. This feature shows that the nano-based tubes of the Iranian company can also be more durable in harsh chemical and environmental conditions.

In addition to these laboratory results, the company's nanotubes enjoy other properties like good strength, high flexibility, corrosion resistance, light weight, affordable price, and easy installation. This combination of features makes the new product an ideal choice for use in sewage and water supply systems in buildings, farms, poultry farms, and livestock farms.

In a relevant development in 2023, an Iranian nanotechnology firm had also succeeded in making a soundproof pipe by using nanoparticles with application in construction industry.

‘Hamid Group’ was the company which produced the silent pipe which is comprised of three layers, with the middle layer made of a nanocomposite material.

There are both nanoparticles and microparticles present in this layer enabling desirable mechanical properties and optimized acoustic properties.

The use of nanoparticles in the polymer matrix in the intermediate layer has led to higher hardness and stiffness and enhanced acoustic properties.

The special sewage pipes can be used in insulation of fittings and construction projects.
