Iran’s Amirkabir University to Establish Science, Technology Park in Oman
“The plans of the scientific and technological cooperation working group of Amirkabir University for establishing Iran’s science and technology park are being implemented in the three countries of Qatar, the UAE and Oman to introduce technologies that were developed in Iran to the international market through a third country,” said Rouhollah Baqerzadeh, the director of scientific and international cooperation department of Amirkabir University of Technology.
Noting that the University will have a strategic partnership with Oman by setting up a Science and Technology Park in the Arab country, he said, “We have several plans in the joint projects department, one of our main plans is to establish a branch of Amirkabir University abroad.”
“This project is being pursued in Turkey, Oman and the Central Asian states so that we can open at least one branch of this university abroad,” Baqerzadeh said.
In a relevant development in December, senior Iranian and Omani officials in a meeting in Tehran discussed ways to further develop relations and cooperation between the two neighbors in the scientific and technological fields.
The meeting was held between Head of Iran National Innovation Fund Mohammad Sadeq Khayyatian and Deputy Chairman at the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones of Oman Abdul Aziz Mohammed Al Hinai.
During the meeting, Khayyatian said that about 9,300 knowledge-based companies and almost the same number of start-ups are operating in 45 science and technology parks in the country which shows Iran's high capacity in the field of science and technology.
“Despite the cruel sanctions over the past few decades, the export of knowledge-based products has roughly reached one billion dollars per year,” he added.
Al-Hinai, for his part, suggested creating a network of universities in the Islamic world to lead joint technological working groups.
“In several visits to Iran, I have become familiar with Iranian products, companies, and industries closely,” he said.
“Oman can be a gateway for Iranian companies to access the international market,” al-Hinai added.
