Iranian Factory Meets Country’s Need for Book Printing Paper
“In the academic year 1401-1402 (Sep. 21, 2022-May 31, 2023), a total of 70% of paper for printing textbooks needed by the country's school goers was supplied by domestic factories, and in the academic year 1402-1403 (Sep. 21, 2023-May 31, 2024), all the textbooks of the country's students were printed by Iranian-made paper,” said Omid Niknejad, the CEO of Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industries.
According to him, currently 155,000,000 textbooks for 14,500,000 Iranian students are supplied from domestically produced paper.
“The production of paper for printing textbooks in the coming academic year 1403-1404 (Sep. 21, 2024-May 31, 2025) from domestically produced paper has prevented the exit of $50 million from the country. This is while in the last 30 years between $30 and $40 million went out of the country to provide 155,000,000 textbooks needed by students,” Niknejad continued.
Stating that 330 publishers in the country use Iranian paper, the CEO said that, "The raw materials needed in this industry, including paper pulp is a material imported from other countries, while other industries also use paper pulp. This pulp is imported from countries such as Russia and Belarus.”
“He also said that some of the chemicals required for production are also supplied through imports, although some factories have taken measures to produce them. Some knowledge-based companies have tried to produce paper pulp in the country, but they have not been able to produce long fiber pulp,” he added.
Niknejad also called for investing on planting trees to produce 100% of the paper needed in the country as the country has such a capablity.
