Iran’s Exports of Agricultural Products Exceed 6.2 Billion Dollars
Deputy Director of the Iranian Agricultural Ministry for planning and economic affairs Hamed Najafi Alamdarlou announced that effective planning led to a $2bln increase in exports of agricultural products from the country last year.
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has declared that the country’s exports of agricultural products topped $6.2 billion last year, showing a $1 billion rise compared to a year earlier.
The value of imports in the agricultural sector fell by $1 billion in the previous Iranian calendar year compared to a year before, Najafi Alamdarlou said, adding that the trade balance of the agricultural sector has improved by $2 billion.
Spokesperson of the Trade Promotion Commission of Iran's House of Industry, Mine and Trade Rouhollah Latifi said in January that $4.3 billion worth of food, crops and agricultural products were exported from Iran to 130 countries in the first 9 months of this year of 1402 in the Iranian calendar, showing 22% increase as compared to last year.
"During the first 9 months of this year (March 21, 2023, to December 21, 2023), more than 6 million tons of fishery, livestock, agricultural, horticultural, and food products worth 4.3 billion dollars were exported to 130 countries, indicating a 7.2% growth compared to the same period last year," Latifi said.
“Of this volume, 4.36 million tons of goods worth $2.562 billion were crops, vegetables and summer products and citrus, which compared to the same period despite a 1.6% decrease in weight it witnessed a growth of 25 4%. There were also 627,000 tons of dairy, fishery and livestock products worth $914 million, recording a 27% increase in weight and 13.3% in value, and 1,19,000 tons of processed and industrial food valued at $836 million, showing 26% growth in weight and 21% in value,” the economic official said.
“With regards to the top 20 export destinations for Iran's food and agricultural products, Latifi said, “Iraq with a purchase of $1.405 billion, UAE with $531 million, Russia with $376 million, Pakistan with $330 million dollars and Afghanistan with $280 million were the top five destinations, he said, adding, “Iran's exports of food and agricultural products were 68% of exports to these five countries.”
“China with the purchase of $215 million, India with $160 million, Turkey with $156.5 million, Turkmenistan with $82.5 million, Azerbaijan with $73.5 million, Germany with $68 million, Qatar with $57 million, Kazakhstan $55.5 million, Oman $52 million, Uzbekistan $47 million, Kuwait $39 million, Spain $37 million, Kyrgyzstan $35 million, Armenia $33.1 million and Syria $33 million, were the sixth to twentieth destinations for Iran's crops and food products from the beginning of the year to the end of the month of Azar (December 21, 2023),” he added.
