Iranian Economic Official Details Agreements with Uzbekistan after Industry Minister’s Visit

TEHRAN (ANA)- An official with the Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) detailed the agreements that were reached between Iran and Uzbekistan during the recent visit of Iranian industry minister Abbas Aliabadi to Tashkent.

Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Abbas Aliabadi recently visited Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan at the head of a delegation and signed agreements with the Central Asian country’s officials to boost economic and industrial cooperation.

“A specialized delegation including the CEOs of more than twenty major companies in the country(Iran) headed by the elected deputy ministers was sent to Uzbekistan two days before the main delegation's trip to survey the fields for cooperation,” deputy director of International Business Promotion Department of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Mohammad-Sadegh Ghanadzadeh said.

"During two days, the representatives of the private and public sectors conducted extensive negotiations with their respective companies and institutions and extracted the most important areas of cooperation and the key obstacles on the way to the development of relations. All these cases were categorized in the framework of the talks that he industry minister held with the ministers and high-ranking officials of Uzbekistan and were discussed during the joint meeting of the minister with the entire Iranian business delegation and economic activists and traders who reside there,” Ghanadzadeh also said.

According to the TOP official, during the trip, the Iranian delegation accompanying the industry minister met with the Uzbekistan’s minister of industry and investment, the minister of energy, the minister of mines and geology and finally the prime minister of the country.

He further said the central banks of Iran and Uzbekistan agreed during the trip to activate the banking exchange mechanism and to introduce commercial banks to advance technical negotiations between the two countries.

“Acceptance of the Most Favored Nation(MFN) principle by the Uzbek government after several years of unsuccessful negotiations and the signing of the executive document of the preferential trade agreement (PTA) between the two countries, extensive agreements in the field of cooperation and participation of Iran in the overhaul of gas turbines, the establishment of a regional service center for repairs and overhaul of oil equipment, refinery and power plant in Uzbekistan and the creation of gas booster stations for Uzbekistan, Iran's participation and investment in the construction of thermal power plants in Uzbekistan, the initial agreement on handing over large areas of metal mines, including iron ore, copper, gold, etc. to Iranian contractors for the implementation of the complete package from extraction to production, preliminary agreement on the formation of a joint logistics company and the supply of freight wagons by Iran for the development of transportation between the two countries, The initial agreement for the presence of large Iranian contractors in the infrastructure projects in Uzbekistan and the facilitation of guarantees and the initial agreement on facilitating the registration of Iranian medicine and medical equipment in Uzbekistan and equipping medical centers with medical equipment produced by Iranian knowledge-based companies were among the most notable agreements and achievements of this trip,” he further detailed.
