Tehran Condemns Pelosi’s Call to Cripple Iran’s Economy
TEHRAN (ANA)- Tehran has sharply criticized recent remarks by US politician Nancy Pelosi, accusing the United States of deliberately harming ordinary Iranians through economic sanctions.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei denounced Pelosi’s call to “cripple” Iran’s economy, warning that targeting civilians—even in rural areas—amounts to deliberate suffering. Writing on X, Baghaei described such actions as the “textbook definition of terrorism” and condemned the “evil and arrogant mindset” behind policies that inflict hardship on ordinary people abroad.
Baghaei further stated that the US strategy constitutes a deliberate and systematic effort to punish populations it opposes, labeling such conduct a “crime against humanity.” The comments come amid ongoing tensions over sanctions and US-Iran relations, with Tehran warning that targeting civilians for political leverage violates international norms.
