Iran’s Top Security Official Holds Talks with Putin on Economic Ties and Regional Issues
The meeting, announced by Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali, highlighted the deepening ties between Tehran and Moscow. Jalali emphasized that economic cooperation was the primary focus, alongside consultations on pressing regional and international matters.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the talks, noting that Moscow places significant importance on its strategic engagement with Iran, particularly regarding diplomacy, energy, and security coordination.
The discussions come amid rising tensions in the region following threats of military action against Iran by U.S. President Donald Trump. Russia has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions while underscoring respect for Iran’s sovereignty.
In parallel, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko recently met with his Iranian counterpart Hamed Ghanbari to review ongoing trade and economic cooperation and to prepare for the next session of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the talks included a comprehensive review of trade, investment, and infrastructure projects, with particular attention to advancing transport and energy initiatives.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with preparations for the upcoming commission meeting, scheduled in Tehran from February 16 to 18, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close economic and strategic cooperation despite broader regional and international challenges.
