Old Gas Station in Tehran Open to Public as Museum

TEHRAN (ANA)- The third oldest gas station of Tehran, located behind the entrance to Darvazeh Dowlat subway station, was opened in 1941 and got reopened 80 years later to serve as a museum to tell the story of old cars and different generations of fuel dispensers.

The museum is now home to many vintage data-x-items like a 1947 Leyland petrol tanker and a 1921 Satam gas pump. The Leyland petrol tanker offered the capability of refueling 12,000 liters of gasoline and Satam gas pump operated 5 liters at a time, stopping after each. Leyland company built these tankers from 1896 to 1968, and this is the only example in the country, which is on display at the museum. This museum is home to some 500 historic objects, all of which registered on the national heritage list and date back to 50 to 100 years ago. She also noted that during the 1940s, fourteen gas stations were built in Tehran with the assistance of a British company.

The first gas station in Iran was constructed in the Southern city of Abadan in 1927. In its early days, the Abadan gas station only distributed Kerosene. However, with more automobiles being imported into Iran over time, it eventually turned into a gas station. The process was to manually pump the oil products from riveted tanks into measures before distributing them to customers according to their demands.
