Forgotten Art of Tinsmithing in Hamedan, West of Iran
TEHRAN (ANA)- Tinsmithing in Hamedan city in Western Iran is an industrial skill which is mainly being forgotten these days. Commencement of tinsmithing in Hamedan dates back to the time of Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar’s reign (July 1831 – 1 May 1896). People are not so much fond of this industry nowadays but there are still elderly men who are trying to keep the art alive with their strong skillful hands.
The beautiful art of tinsmithing was brought to Hamedan from Germany by Ostad (master) Nour Ali Zarrabian. It is said that the rhythm of his hammering was the pleasant music of Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar’s mint and in the meantime, his lasting legacy in Hamedan.
The art of tinsmithing of Hamedan has been registered as a national craftmanship by Ostad Mohammad Baqer Zarrabian, the grandchild of Nour Ali Zarrabian. The art has also been proposed to the UNESCO for registration.
