Iranian Biologist Utilizes Omics Method to Study Behavior of Molecules
“What we are doing in our company is Omics, which includes proteomics, metabolomics and transcriptomics, which is a new arena in the fields of biology, biotechnology and conducting molecular studies on a large scale,” Esmail Sadruldini, a faculty member of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in medical biotechnology told ANA correspondent on the sidelines of Asreh Omid (Age of Hope) exhibition held by the Islamic Azad University (IAU).
Sadraldini, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Knowledge-Based company of Biomix added, “Conventionally, in research and normal laboratories, the researchers deal with a limited number of molecules; but what distinguishes the Omics field is that it deals with the entire molecular content of a cell or the entire molecular content of an organism, and of course, the methods used in this field are special. For example, we have NGS methods and microVario methods. These are the methods that, for example, study proteins, genes and different molecules in general and get a good understanding of the status of the organism and biological processes; because when you examine a molecule, you don't know what's happening in the molecule next to it or you can't assess the relationship between them; but in Omics, all of these are studied in relation to each others.”
“There are several points of progress in the field of Omics. In the field of equipment, it is constantly developing and new equipment is coming. It is a field of data analysis, in which software and different data networks and data banks are constantly being formed and moving forward. There is also an artificial intelligence section, which only when all this is provided, we realize that we cannot analyze all this data naturally. Therefore, it has artificial intelligence part, which is growing rapidly,” the Biomix company head went on to say.
The biologist further said that his company conducts its plans with the attitude that the country's diagnostic and research laboratories take into account the needs in this field.
“Biomix is the only company in Iran that is exclusively working in this field and in addition to the services we provide, we also have a number of foreign partners, and the fact is that we must be able to share some of our studies with the help of foreign companies and universities, from European countries to other universities, and we do some work with their help. In one of the departments of this company, we also produce consumables,” he added.
Sadruldini said some of the products made by his company have come to the market on a research scale and are being consumed.
“We are looking to take these to diagnosis stage in the next phase and get the diagnosis permits. Islamic Azad University (IAU) has very large capacities and capabilities, because it is the biggest educational center in the country and enjoys the most number of professors and students. Our feeling is that this field of science and technology can open its place in Azad University. In addition, the IAU has made good progress in the fields of artificial intelligence such as in robotics. There are many students and professors in Azad University who can potentially help us, but we just need to introduce this field and tell them its importance,” Sadruldini said.
